Job Detail

Reporting to the Director of Training and Development, the Instructor & Consultant is responsible to deliver a variety of training and consultation services, (primarily to external organizations) including but not limited to, crisis intervention, violence prevention, workplace conflict, risk assessment and physical intervention. Providing specialized consultation services to agencies requiring additional support is also a facet of this position.

Responsibilities

Work closely with the Director of Training and Development, and the Client Services Coordinator to ensure client training and consulting needs are effectively addressed.

Communicate any scheduling conflicts or concerns with the Client Services Coordinator.

Deliver effective, dynamic and engaging in-person training programs as scheduled.

Deliver effective, professional and responsive consultation services as scheduled.

Approach all aspects of the position in a manner reflective of SMG’s vision, “Leaders in transforming peoples’ lives on their path to Learning”.

Work with the entire SMG Training Team to create, revise and update training and consulting programs and materials as required or directed.

Support and mentor new Trainers/Consultants.

Be a responsible steward of SMG resources and equipment.

Provide assistance to other members of the SMG training team as required.

Attend scheduled team meetings.

Complete all required documentation for Training and Consulting services in a professional and timely manner.

Track, document and report job-related expenses to the Director of Training and Development on a monthly basis or as directed.

Maintain your vehicle in sound working condition to ensure “on-time” delivery of training and consulting services.

Support the SMG treatment home, in a mentorship, training and coaching capacity.

Participate in one-day clinical assessments as required, in collaboration with Pryor Linder and Associates.

Conduct Violence Risk Assessments of organizations, as required or directed.

Conduct Individual Specialized Client Consultations as scheduled or directed.

Represent SMG at trade shows, conferences and speaking events as scheduled or directed.

Maintain client records in a secure (encrypted manner).

Conduct training and consulting services in a manner that respects client confidentiality, individual differences and various learning styles.

Skills And Qualifications

Understanding of effective teaching methodologies, tools and adult learning principles.

Proven experience in a training, coaching and/or leadership role.

Willingness to keep abreast of new techniques and delivery models in training and education.

Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, WORD. PowerPoint); Knowledge of e-learning software and “InDesign” software is an asset.

Phenomenal communication, presentation, and public speaking skills

Able to work with minimal supervision.

Exceptional Organization and time management abilities.

Critical thinking and decision making.

Able to quickly adapt to the needs of the group during training and consulting.

Relevant degree/diploma with a minimum of 3 years direct experience in the social service or health care field.

Able to adapt to changing technologies in training and education.

Sound knowledge and comprehension of crisis prevention principles and application of physical intervention techniques.

Sound knowledge of biomechanics.

Training qualifications/certifications in the areas of health care, mental health and developmental services are an asset.

Travel primarily within Ontario. Out of Province travel may, at times, be required.

Valid driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle.

Willingness to work some evenings and weekends as required to meet training needs.
