The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa invites applications for two francophone tenure-track faculty positions in its newly launched School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. We are seeking francophone applicants with expertise in any of the following specialties: biopharmaceuticals, galenic, pharmacodynamics, pharmacoeconomy, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacogenetics, pharmacy practice, and pharmacy education.

The University of Ottawa is one of Canada’s leading research-intensive universities with over $340 million in annual research funding. The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences is located on the unceded territory of the Anishinabe-Algonquin people, at the heart of Ottawa’s health research and education campus. Together with its affiliated research institutes, the Faculty of Medicine consistently ranks among the top Faculties of Medicine in Canada for research impact and intensity. 

Successful candidates will contribute to the development of a new PharmD program in French and graduate programs in English. They will also be expected to establish and maintain a vigorous program of independent, externally funded research. Successful candidates will have access to resources and shared research infrastructure to support their educational and research programs, including access to a wide array of Faculty and hospital research Institute resources in close proximity and state-of-the-art Core Facilities within the Faculty of Medicine.

Title of the position: Assistant Professor. The higher rank of Associate Professor will only be considered should the successful candidate possess an appropriate level of experience and commensurate achievements.

Number of positions available: up to two (2) conditional upon funding.

Duties: The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in varying proportions: a) teaching activities; b) scholarly activities evidenced by research, artistic or literary creation, or professional work; c) academic service activities; and d) supervision of graduate students and other research trainees.

Terms: Tenure-track position.

Wage: Salary scale for an Assistant Professor starts at $94,588 and the salary scale for an Associate Professor starts at $104,487 (as of May 1, 2023). Note: salary for higher ranks is commensurate according to rank and experience.

Benefits package: The University of Ottawa provides a complete compensation package, which includes long-term disability, basic group life insurance, supplementary health insurance, University of Ottawa Pension Plan and optional life insurance.

Relocation expenses: The successful candidate may be eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with the University policy.

Skill requirements:

  • Education: PhD, MD/PhD, PharmD/PhD, BScPharm/PhD or equivalent degrees in a relevant field. 
  • Work experience: Postdoctoral experience, or equivalent, with demonstrated excellent research achievements. A commitment to teaching and graduate training, a strong track record in, and a commitment to, interdisciplinary collaboration. Excellent communication skills in English and French.
  • Language: Excellent communication skills in both French and English. Active knowledge of the other official language in Canada is a requirement for tenure. French-English bilingualism is an asset.
