Position Summary:
As a senior mechanical Engineer, Gamma Technologies, the Engineering Specialist will play a pivotal role within our Engineering team. Your primary focus will be overseeing the entire lifecycle of Industrial Irradiator projects, from initial concept to final commissioning. Working closely with our team, you will contribute your expertise to ensure the successful design and installation of these critical systems, making a tangible impact on our company’s growth and success.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be a key member of the PI Mechanical Engineering department at Nordion’s Kanata location, where you will lead the design, manufacturing, and installation processes for Industrial Irradiators. Drawing upon your strong background in Engineering and Project Management, you will provide technical guidance and oversight to designers, engineers, technologists, and suppliers. Your leadership will be instrumental in maintaining project timelines and ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Additionally, you’ll be expected to engage in approximately 60-90 days/year of international travel to customer sites, overseeing Irradiator installations and providing crucial on-site supervision.
Qualifications:
We are seeking an ideal candidate who demonstrates:
- A Mechanical Engineering degree with professional certification (PEng) or the ability to obtain certification.
- A minimum of 8-10 years of hands-on industrial experience encompassing mechanical expertise and a solid understanding of electrical, controls, and process engineering.
- Proficiency in Solidworks or equivalent software for design and modeling.
- Proven project management skills honed through practical experience.
- A robust background in mechanical design, showcasing innovative solutions and attention to detail.
- Exceptional mechanical troubleshooting abilities, able to swiftly diagnose and resolve complex issues to ensure seamless project execution.
Skills and Competencies:
- Self-motivation coupled with demonstrated leadership skills to inspire and guide teams towards success.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience managing large-scale projects exceeding $500k, showcasing adeptness in handling complex project logistics and challenges.
- Excellent decision-making abilities, capable of making informed choices under pressure to drive project outcomes.
- Effective communication skills, including strong presentation abilities, to convey ideas and project progress clearly and persuasively.
- Over 5 years of experience in customer interface roles, fostering strong client relationships and understanding their needs.
- Proficiency in technical writing, with a track record of creating comprehensive technical reports, proposals, and project documentation.
- Ability to organize, delegate tasks, and oversee a job site with multiple contractors, ensuring efficient project coordination and execution.
- Expertise in planning, scheduling, executing, and delivering both internal and external projects with precision and attention to detail.
- Competency in project estimating to accurately assess resource requirements and project costs.
- Strong time management skills, adept at prioritizing tasks and maintaining focus amidst competing demands.
- Experience in preparing and distributing reports to various stakeholders, conveying technical details, results, and conclusions effectively.
Additional Requirements:
Training Requirement: The successful candidate must complete all mandatory training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
International Travel Capability: The role necessitates the ability to travel internationally as needed for project installations and supervision. Valid Canadian passport is a requirement.
Background Verification: As part of the screening process, background verification, including FBI fingerprinting to uphold security measures and ensure suitability for the position.
