Your goal in this position is to be responsible for providing spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff at the General Site. You have the ability to work in a multi-faith and multi-cultural setting. You are able to work as a team member with other health care professionals and community partners. You have excellent listening skills and verbal and written communication skills. This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients and families.On a practical level, you will

  • Provide spiritual care to patients and families, including interventions such as active listening, leading prayer and memorial services, and facilitating times of meditation and personal reflection
  • Provide and/or facilitate spiritual care to patients and families in conjunction with Spiritual Care Faith Visitor volunteers and community partners
  • Work collaboratively with other health professionals to coordinate and integrate spiritual needs and resources into the overall care plan
  • Participate in activities on behalf of the Spiritual Care Services
  • Support staff members

Qualifications

  • Master of Divinity or equivalent
  • Certification by the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care as a Spiritual Care Practitioner or Psycho-Spiritual Therapist or equivalent preferred
  • Certification as a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists Ontario preferred
  • 3 years’ experience working in Spiritual Care with acute care patients and families preferred
  • Fluency in a language in addition to English will be considered an asset
