Job Description Summary

BASIC FUNCTION:

Support faculty and create educational and professional development experiences focused on equipping members of the URI instructional community to become effective practitioners of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). Develop, deliver, monitor, and improve faculty development experiences that enable instructors to reflect on and effectively pursue research-based pedagogical strategies that quantify improved learning for the students they teach, as well as equip faculty to make progress on their research agendas based on their teaching pursuits. Work with interested graduate students who serve as instructors and teaching assistants across URI to develop their own teaching as research (TAR) projects. Work towards a goal of URI joining the Center for the Integration of Teaching & Learning (CIRTL) Network (https://cirtl.net).

Duties and ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead SoTL program offerings for ATL including regularly scheduled introduction to SoTL workshops in person, online, and/or offered asynchronously.

Assist individual faculty, academic departments, and URI colleges in designing and implementing SoTL projects.

Coordinate and offer advanced SoTL workshops, professional development experiences, and cohort-based opportunities for faculty members and graduate students at URI.

Provide direct support to URI’s Discipline Based Education Research (DBER) faculty cohort that is relevant to their needs and helps them to be successful in their aims as practitioners in their field both individually and as a group.

Initiate and build relationships with offices and units at URI that support and promote faculty research endeavors and projects including the university’s Institutional Review Board and supporting staff, the Division of Research and Economic Development, and other relevant Offices that support this work.

Provide direct support to interested URI graduate students in the practice of Teaching as Research (TAR) through programming and providing additional professional development opportunities that promote and develop their skill set and research agendas using their teaching practice.

Develop new and innovative experiences for faculty to share their SoTL research using different modalities that are cutting edge, modern, and faculty focused.

Support members of URI’s instructional population by creating an online SoTL resource library, and also making efficient the process to disseminate their SoTL findings on campus and through external presentations and publications in print and digital formats.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform additional duties related to supporting URI faculty, graduate students, and relevant university committees through professional development opportunities and related experiences in multiple modalities depending on the need and purpose.

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

Personal computers, printers; spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.

Required QualificationsREQUIRED:

1. Earned master’s degree from an accredited institution.

2. Demonstrated experience working with instructors in a higher education setting to develop, complete, and implement educational development initiatives.

3. Demonstrated experience conducting SoTL research.

4. Demonstrated experience creating professional development opportunities and/or resources that equip others to implement SoTL effectively.

5. Demonstrated experience with the implementation and facilitation of professional opportunities for college-level instructors.

6. Demonstrated college-level teaching experience as a lead instructor or instructor of record.

7. Demonstrated experience and dedication to integrating inclusion, equity and social justice in your work.

8. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

9. Demonstrated strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

10. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

11. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred QualificationsPREFERRED:

1. Research based master’s, earned Ph.D. or terminal degree from an accredited institution.

2. Demonstrated experience working with instructors (including graduate students and/or graduate student teaching assistants) on a college or university campus to develop, complete, and implement SoTL based scholarship.

3. Demonstrated college-level teaching experience with evidence of progressively improving teaching practice.

4. Demonstrated experience with educational development support for large enrollment courses (over 100 students), gateway courses, and with creating educational development experiences in multiple modalities (face to face, synchronous online, and asynchronous online).
