The Opportunity

The Social Media Manager works as part of the Brand, Storytelling and Communications team, and collaborates across the organization to support programs and services, fundraising, partnerships, thought leadership and brand building. This role leads strategy, content creation and community management for all Kids Help Phone and associated social media channels.

Get ready to make your mark by developing and activating a comprehensive social strategy, writing and designing content, responding to current events, engaging our social media audiences, and growing our communities. At this time, we have four channels for Kids Help Phone/Jeunesse J’ecoute (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and one social channel for our Good2Talk program (Instagram).

The successful candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field; or equivalent combination of education and at least five (5) years experience. Post-graduate degree in Corporate Communications is an asset.

The Social Media Manager must possess exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. The candidate will have proven experience leading the development, management and implementation of social media strategies to enhance awareness, understanding and support for Kids Help Phone, and be an ambassador and change agent both internally and externally to the organization.


What You’ll Contribute:

  • Develop strategic content plan for Kids Help Phone social channels with a goal to engage, create conversation, grow audiences and meet business objectives.
  • Create and sustain editorial content calendar for Kids Help Phone social channels.
  • Create content opportunities and work with key partners to develop engaging co-branded content.
  • Continue to support the launch and roll out of new Kids Help Phone brand platform across all social channels.
  • Research and build partnerships with social creators and influencers to become Kids Help Phone and mental health ambassadors.
  • Create varied multimedia content (infographics, GIF’s and video) for various platforms to build awareness around Kids Help Phone services, brand, helpful resources, and partnerships.
  • Explore the viability of adding new social tools and platforms to Kids Help Phone’s social complement.
  • Work with knowledge mobilization team to develop clinically supported copy and collaborate on shared editorial initiatives.
  • Carry out day-to-day community management and engage with other accounts through comments, shares and live online conversations.
  • Manage/respond to sensitive posts and direct messages.
  • Analyze the performance of social media channels and edit content, timing and moderation strategies and tactics to optimize engagement and deliver content that best speaks to audiences.
  • Support with the amplification and promotion of events and key moments in the editorial calendar (including but not limited to KHP fundraising events, Bell Let’s Talk Day, Pride, and Indigenous History Month, Back to School, Innovation launches and ongoing donor recognition milestones).


What You’ll Need:

  • Hands-on experience or Bachelor’s degree in communication, or related field.
  • Excellent judgement and diplomacy aimed at building trust and community.
  • A natural storyteller with excellent writing skills and the ability to adapt strategies and communications based on trends.
  • Expert knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and other social media best practices.
  • A keen eye for creating video content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter
  • A passion for youth mental health.
  • Relationship-first approach and experience supporting projects in non-profit, health, community/youth engagement, or post-secondary student services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products, with experience using visual editor tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Photoshop).
  • Experience reporting and analyzing data to identify trends and opportunities (both social media and relationship management).
