Desired Results of the Position:
A student body connected to its Board of Directors and one that understands and values the role of the Algonquin Students’ Association (SA)
Students have intimate knowledge of services available to them via the SA
Nature and Scope
The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for maintaining all social media platforms for the SA. Reporting to the Manager, Communications, the Social Media Coordinator is responsible for representing the Students’ Association online through social media. The incumbent will be accountable for creating and implementing an annual social media strategy and ensuring that it remains consistent and relevant to current students. The primary function is to establish a line of communication between the Algonquin Students’ Association and its membership and stakeholders.
Job Duties
Develop and execute an ambitious social media strategy for multiple channels on all campuses
Create an online presence to generate awareness, build engagement, promote growth and enhance the community experience across campuses
Generate posts and promote daily content to engage diverse audiences
Respond to all direct messages promptly with high standards for accuracy, responsiveness, integrity and discretion
Maintain social media content calendar and social media contact list
Attend SA and Algonquin College events to collect social media content
Social media content collection, creation, and management
Collaborate with stakeholders to formulate an annual plan with clear objectives and a defined strategy that: o Creates an online presence to generate awareness and build engagement across all campuses o Protects and elevates the SA’s image and reputation and contributes to fulfilling objectives o Ensures that all information is timely, accurate, and relevant
Proactively monitor a variety of topics in the media and ensure relevant issues are communicated
Protect the SA brand by ensuring all social media content meets a fun but professional standard and must immediately inform the manager of questionable content
Elevate the Board of Directors by increasing their online presence
Conceptualize, create, and edit visual brand content, including photos and short-form videos
Focus on identifying and leveraging new trends in a constantly evolving media landscape
Foster positive digital interactions to create a helpful, reliable, safe space online for students
Incorporate inclusive design through equal representation and inclusive language
Improve accessibility through video captions, plain language, camel case in links and hashtags, and embracing feedback
Proactively identify gaps in communication and research and propose solutions/improvements to better support students
Manage and periodically update social media logins and passwords
Ensure that the SA messaging is consistent across all social media platforms and in line with brand standards
Assist with the development and execution of communications ideas to achieve the goals of internal projects
Work collaboratively with teams across the SA and Algonquin College to create and execute social media plans
Create traffic and brand awareness across all SA social media platforms
Assist in planning promotional, marketing, and awareness campaigns for the SA services, events, and departments
Monitor and track social media analytics and metrics
Purchase social media advertising as required
Generate and update QR codes

Diploma in social media, digital marketing, advertising, communications or equivalent
Three years of direct work experience in a social media role
Excellent knowledge of Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn
Experience with social media management tools such as Hootsuite and Linktree
Capability to handle a fast-paced environment with many disruptions
Ability to build and sustain relationships
A positive attitude and ability to work both individually and in a team environment
Willing to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and evenings
Familiarity with graphic design concepts
Established social media photography and videography skills
Demonstrated knowledge in writing engagingly for public and student audience
Qualified to respond to social media interactions quickly and with sound judgement
Experience in writing, editing, and content curation
Capacity to liaise with graphic designers and marketers in other departments to flag issues, provide feedback, and offer social media best practices, training and guidance
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Practical verbal and written (including editing) communication skills
Knowledge of marketing and public engagement strategies
Strong sense of visual design
Compensation
This position is part of CUPE Local 5154 – pay Level 4 ($29.62-$32.82 per hour)
This position is a full-time position of 35 hours a week (work week will be flexible with some weeks being more hours and some less hours, and workdays may change from week to week)
