Position Summary
In this role you will join Nordion’s dynamic team of technical service representatives responsible for delivering quality products and services at the highest level of customer satisfaction. Reporting to the Product Manager, Irradiator Technology and Strategic Services, the technical service representative is responsible for executing and supporting projects for Nordion’s global customer base. The technical service representative will collaborate cross functionally with internal and external stakeholders, contribute to various project scopes, and provide feedback and direct input to project leaders and management. This is a customer facing role where you will have the opportunity to travel globally and support on-site projects for Nordion’s industrial irradiator division and build international relationships among the industry. You will be primarily responsible for installation services for new production irradiators, refurbishments and upgrades, Co-60 source replenishment maintenance, repair, and other related field service duties.
This position is deemed a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW). A Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) is defined by the Nuclear Safety and Control Act as a person who is required, in the course of the person’s business, or occupation in connection with a nuclear substance or nuclear facility to perform duties in such circumstances that there is a reasonable probability that the person may receive a dose of radiation that is greater than the prescribed limit for the general public (1 mSv per year for the whole body).
Responsibilities
Organize, direct and manage on-site projects for Nordion’s customers, at customer facilities worldwide.
Installation of Nordion products; primarily Cobalt 60 radioactive sources.
Execute a broad range of services offered in Nordion’s portfolio.
Participate in the assembly and testing of irradiator equipment as required.
Prepare technical reports on equipment performance and make recommendation for enhancements/corrective actions.
May be required to train the customer’s operators and agents in the service of equipment.
Qualifications
Education: Minimum 3 year technologist diploma, preferably from an electrical or mechanical discipline.
Experience: 5+ years direct related experience in one of the following:
Field service or project coordination role with demonstrated success in nuclear, electrical, or mechanically focused projects or
Supervisory role for a pharmaceutical manufacturing or production environment with demonstrated success in continuous improvement projects or
Completion of an appropriate electrical or mechanical trade apprenticeship with relevant experience or
A combination of education and experience relevant to the position
Skills and Competencies
- Electrical or mechanical fundamentals.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering schematics.
- Possess good business acumen.
- Comfortable making independent decisions and recommendations to stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Good analytical skills, especially to trouble shoot and service technical equipment.
- PLC experience is an asset.
Additional Requirements
- Overtime (Typically 10 hour days at Customer sites)
- Able to travel internationally (required to travel an average of 175 days per year)
- Shift work requirements (from time to time at Customer sites)
Physical Job Demands :
- Good manual dexterity and grip strength.
- Lift at least 25kgs on an occasional basis.
- Sustained physical work in a hot environment (destination dependent).
- May require work in confined places.
- May require working from heights.
- Valid driver’s license.
Training Required: Must complete all required training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker.
Nordion requires pre-employment screening to be accepted as cleared prior to start date. Background verification includes FBI fingerprinting.
This position requires the successful completion of a vision screen as a pre-employment condition.
