About the Organization An integrated, collaborative, interdisciplinary vaccine research team, the Canadian Center for Vaccinology (CCfV) is committed to developing, implementing and evaluating vaccine technologies and vaccines for infectious diseases that have a significant impact on Canadian and global health and training experts in these critical and evolving fields. Job Summary Reporting to the Social Science Project Manager Team Lead, the Research Associate is responsible for taking on a leadership role in supporting all aspects of the research studies, including some or all of the following: preparation of ethics applications, designing study materials, qualitative and quantitative data collection, data management and analysis, and the preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the planning, organization, and administration of research studies, under the direction of the assigned Project Manager, and Principal Investigator; including the development of study-related documents, which may include protocols, ethics correspondence, interview guides, and consent forms.
  • Provide overall coordination of research studies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, Good Clinical Practice, and funder guidelines under the oversight of the Investigator.
  • Work with the project team, community partners, external partners, vendors, and others to ensure all project deliverables are completed and milestones are met.
  • Conduct or support collection (surveys, interviews, focus groups, etc.) and analysis (qualitative coding, NVivo analysis, statistical, etc.) of qualitative and/or quantitative study data
  • File and manage study documents (interview/focus group guides, etc.), participant documents (consent forms, etc.), data files (data entry, audio recordings, transcripts, etc.), and other study-related materials; develop and maintain methods of tracking information through databases and spreadsheets.
  • Write, edit, and disseminate research reports, academic papers, and research presentations in cooperation with the research team, as well as assist with grant application preparation and writing.
Note The successful applicant may work on-site (Dalhousie, IWK Health Centre or other location), work remotely, or perform a hybrid of the two as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements.
Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary. Additionally, as this position is in a clinical academic department possibly based within Nova Scotia Health facilities, NSH’s vaccination and other relevant workplace policies may apply.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in social sciences/health services or related field
  • 2 years of relevant experience within a university, hospital (or comparable environment) in a research setting
  • Completion of a research methods course or equivalent experience with qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed-methods research
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Assets
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience conducting community-based research
  • Proficiency in using qualitative (e.g., NVivo, etc.) and quantitative analytic software (e.g., SAS, etc.)
  • Bilingualism in French and English
