RESEARCH ASSOCIATE – Department of Pediatrics
The UBC Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology, located at BC Children’s Hospital invites applications for a Research Associate to join a multidisciplinary translational research program focusing on pediatric and congenital heart disease. The Research Associate possesses and applies highly advanced scientific knowledge of congenital heart disease, cardiovascular imaging and outcomes evaluation.
You will have a PhD and experience in research in pediatric and congenital heart disease. Expertise in outcomes research, research networks and large scale data management and analyses is an asset as well as demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communications.
As the successful candidate, you will:
-Demonstrate scientific creativity and/or knowledge in pediatric and congenital heart disease
-Independently design and implement research projects which include the analysis of feasibility and application of a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts
-Plan, organize and carry out brain imaging research in the context of ongoing and new prospective cohort studies
-Remain current on research of current principles and theories
-Independently determine new data required to develop a paper
-Prepare peer reviewed scientific manuscripts and grant proposals
-Apply highly advanced knowledge of innovative research principles, theories and concepts, especially focused on pediatric and congenital heart disease
-Provide leadership and supervision within the research group on scientific matters
-Supervise and mentor trainees and technologists
-Assist the PI in ensuring fiscal safety and legislative responsibilities are maintained
-Participate in ad hoc committees within the Research Institute
-Exercise extensive independent judgement, initiative and decision making to resolve problems
-Implement new methods for longitudinal data analysis
-Develop guidelines, procedures and standards; monitor for industry compliance when relevant
-Serve as the spokesperson and authority for internal and external contacts on a wide variety of scientific issues and collaborations
-Develop and present material for publication using strong written, verbal, and graphical communications skills with the ability to express highly complex scientific concepts effectively
-Present scientific outcomes to members of the international research community
-Assist the PI in preparing reviews of others’ grant application and manuscripts as appropriate
This position will begin May 1, 2023. This is a full time term appointment subject to annual renewal. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
