The Acute Care Program is seeking a part-time, permanent Program Assistant to work in the Medical Withdrawal Service (MWS). Reporting to the Manager, you will contribute to the organization and safe and optimal function of the unit under the direction of the clinical staff, and promote maintenance of the therapeutic milieu as a member of the interprofessional team. Operating in a trauma-informed, harm-reduction paradigm, you will contribute to and participate in the supportive interaction and monitoring of individual and groups of clients and provide them with direct care and support. You will also accompany clients for medical clearance and for any other transfers as deemed necessary. Along with clinicians, you will supervise and facilitate client participation in group and individual activities. In addition to communicating both verbally and in writing about behavioural observations, assessments and client’s response to care interventions, the incumbent will assume an active role in maintaining both dynamic and static safety elements of the program and service. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position involves shift rotation and weekend work. This position is located at the Queen St Site.The successful candidate will have a Grade 12 education or equivalent and will possess CPR Certification and a Personal Care Worker Certificate, or possess or be in the process of pursuing a certificate/diploma/degree in a health related field. One year of health care related experience is required. Ability to reflect on one’s own biases and demonstrate empathy for clients is essential. The successful applicant will possess effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-professional team environment. Besides being reliable, co-operative and client-focused you will be a motivated team player who shows initiative. In addition, you will possess effective organizational, problem-solving and communication skills, both verbal and written. Familiarity with clinical care and issues specific to mental health and addictions settings is required. You will have the ability to work with clients, teams and stakeholders from diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds, and demonstrate high levels of sensitivity and diplomacy.
