Project Title: Development of a tool to support treatment decisions in spinal muscular atrophy in Canada

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The objective of this research project is to develop a tool to support decisions of families and clinicians in selecting a treatment plan for individuals affected by SMA.

With the support of the research team, the postdoctoral fellow will:
  • Acquire training on the Ottawa Decision Aid Framework
  • Conduct a decision need assessment among SMA leading clinicians and families
  • Develop a tool aid
  • Write a grant proposal for implementation and assessment of the SMA tool to CIHR
This postdoctoral fellowship is based at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in collaboration with Muscular Dystrophy Canada (MDC) and the Neuromuscular Disease Network for Canada (NMD4C). This well established and dynamic environment fosters professional development and
interdisciplinary research collaborations. In view of the national perspective in this project, some travel will be required.
Additional Information:
  • Preferred background in healthcare
  • Requirement: PhD completed (within the past 5 years) or to have his/her thesis defense by January 2023
  • Required Assets: qualitative research background, fluency in English (written , spoken and understood) good communication skills
  • Preferred assets: prior experience in decision aid development and/or knowledge transfer, qualitative and quantitative analysis skills

TERM
Funding is available for 1 year, with possibility of an extension

SALARY
$40,000 CAD/year
(Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience)

START DATE
