Your Opportunity:

Under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager, the pharmacist will be responsible for the following duties: Reviewing medication orders for safety, efficacy and compliance with the criteria of the Outpatient Cancer Drug Benefit Program. Supervising technicians in the dispensing of medications and the preparation of sterile products. Monitoring drug therapy for safety, efficacy and desired clinical outcomes. Detecting and reporting adverse drug reactions. Providing drug information to other health care providers and assisting in therapeutic decision making for patient treatment. Teaching health care providers and patients about medication use. Participating in the education and training of new staff, pharmacy residents and students. Participating in multidisciplinary work groups, committees, special projects and other duties as assigned. Working collaboratively with other health care professionals to optimize patient care in an oncology inpatient unit or ambulatory clinic. Education and Licensing. Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from a recognized institution. Licensed or eligible for licensure with the Alberta College of Pharmacists.

You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. In addition, you will provide assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 1 Year Oncology experience required, preferentially at a tertiary center. Hospital pharmacy residency and/or prior hospital experience required. Recent direct patient care experience required (at least 1 year within the last 3 years). Experience with provision of pharmaceutical care in a multidisciplinary team preferred. Experience with computerized medication order entry, IV admixtures and drug distribution preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Fluent in the English language (both written and verbal). Excellent organizational and decision-making abilities desired. Demonstrates good time management skills including ability to switch Priorities and multitask. Able to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment. Demonstrates ability to use evidence-based medicine in direct patient care. Demonstrates self-directed learning and continuing professional development. Advanced Prescribing Authority (APA) is an asset. Active membership in the Canadian Association of Pharmacy in Oncology (CaPhO) is recommended.
