Job Summary The Human Resources Department is committed to a vision where employees are engaged, supported, and inspired to achieve excellence at Dalhousie University. Reporting to the HR & Payroll Administrator, the Payroll Clerk performs a variety of specialized duties relating to Payroll and Information Services, while maintaining an in-depth knowledge of policies and procedures, labour standards, Service Canada and Canada Revenue Agency regulations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and respond to a broad range of inquiries, complaints and requests from employees, former employees, banks, employment verifications, government departments, etc. regarding payroll procedures.
  • Intake and distribute all payroll documentation and information to payroll assistants. Ensure information is complete, consult with departmental contracts or employees regarding discrepancies.
  • Primarily responsible for monitoring and maintaining a variety of project email inboxes.
  • Review and process various forms (Courtesy access profiles, electronic personal action forms, etc.), and update information in HRIS.
  • Perform a variety of payroll-related audits.
  • During absences and peak periods, assist with other Payroll Unit staff duties.
Note Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications
  • Business/office administrative program with approximately two years experience in an HR/Payroll function (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Completion (or willingness to complete) National Payroll Institute Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification.
  • Experience with integrated administrative systems.
  • Excellent communication, organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in order to meet stringent deadlines.
  • Must be proficient in Excel and Word.
Assets
  • Knowledge of Banner preferred.
