Closing Date: June 25, 2025Position SummaryThe Patient Education Resource Coordinator helps create a culture of patient education and engagement at UHN by participating in the production cycle of UHN patient education publications. The Resource Coordinator ensures that all UHN print and electronic patient education publications are written at a level that is appropriate to the needs and literacy levels of UHN patients and their families. The principal responsibilities include: reviewing and editing all UHN patient education publications; acting as a communications consultant both for authors of patient education material and the internal and external needs of the Patient Education Program; maintaining Patient Education Program editorial policy and publishing procedures.Duties
- Reviews and edits all UHN Patient Education publications.
- Works with authors and Patient Education team members to prepare final drafts of patient education materials. Edits patient education materials, including copy-editing, proofreading and rewriting
- Acts as a communications consultant both for authors of patient education material and the internal and external needs of the Patient Education Program.
- Maintains Patient Education Program editorial policy and publishing procedures.
- Maintains necessary records and pro-actively reports issues.
Qualifications
- At minimum, completion of a Bachelor’s Degree program
- Or recognized equivalent post-secondary degree program in communications or other relevant discipline
- Previous on-the-job experience of clear language editing required; preferably in a health/medical context.
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Microsoft SharePoint and Teams (or similar) and Adobe Indesign
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of clear language and the differences between technical and conversational writing
- Ability to put the information needs of patients and families first
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communications skills
- Experience with HTML and relevant web accessibility features
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to establish solid working relationships with staff at all levels
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
- Ability to juggle work projects
- Understanding of organizational communications
