Position Description:
The Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture at McGill University invites applications for two, full-time, open-rank/assistant professor tenure-track positions.
These positions are supported by McGill University’s Action Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism. Inspired by global social and political mobilization against systemic racism, the Plan commits to increasing the University’s complement of Black tenure-track and tenured professors.

Successful candidates for the positions will display a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. Architectural education at McGill University has a long and distinguished record of social engagement through practice, research, and advocacy. The successful candidate would benefit from and enrich this dynamic landscape. Potential research areas include: spatial activism and community engagement; housing; Black architectural experience, the construction of racial identities; building technology and structural systems; global architectural histories; sustainability; and digital media.
This call for applications is situated in our strong institutional commitment to inclusivity. The School is transforming its tenure-track faculty, launching large-scale collaborative research initiatives, and critically revising its structures and approaches to architectural education. The call supports the University’s efforts to strengthen research excellence and course offerings in fields such as Black Canadian Studies and African and Diaspora Studies. Our students, too, have made a passionate student appeal for racial justice. The School is fully committed to addressing the multiple challenges that face the discipline and the profession, including diversity and inclusion, social equity, environmental sustainability, climate change, and public health and safety.
Qualifications: Candidates should demonstrate an outstanding track record of teaching and research as well as a strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice. A professional degree in architecture or an allied field is required and a PhD in architecture or an allied field by the time of the appointment or shortly thereafter is strongly preferred.
Duties: Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses based on department needs, advising our B.Sc.(Arch.), M.Arch,, and Ph.D. students, and providing service to the department, Faculty of Engineering, and university community. The ability to develop and sustain a level of teaching performance and research production commensurate with the University’s expectations for tenure is required. Faculty are expected to develop and maintain an externally funded research program of international distinction.
