Closing Date: August 22, 2025The Medical Director, Multisystem, Musculoskeletal, Geriatric Rehab services will provide medical leadership, through effective collaboration and communication, to ensure that optimum functioning of program’s inpatient services in the interest of quality care, education, research and advocacy. The Medical Director will be expected to partner with and jointly share accountabilities with the Clinical Director and Program Services Managers to support optimal operational and strategic performance.KEY ROLES AND DUTIES:PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Participates with the Clinical Director in identifying and prioritizing program specific and cross-program improvement activities
  • Partner with Clinical Director on Program Resource Decisions: e.g. model change ideas to improve efficiencies, quality and safety
  • Partner with Clinical Director to identify resources or “wish list” that might be supported by philanthropic donations through the Toronto Rehabilitation Foundation
  • Develops plans and implements a strategy in consultation with the Clinical Director that provides excellent patient care and supports education and clinical research in a “best practice” environment.
  • Establishes, in collaboration with the Clinical Director, a mechanism through which there is consultation and participation in the development and achievement of program plans and objectivesFosters and facilitates a high quality education and research environment

QUALITY AND SAFETY

  • Provide medical leadership support to programs with complex patient cases that are escalated (manager and physician at the local unit cannot resolve complaint or concern from a patient or family member
  • Provide medical leadership and co-lead reviews of potential Serious Safety Events with Clinical Director
  • Provide advice to the program leadership on critical issues that may pertain to hospital, patient and staff risk

FISCAL

  • Based on priorities and needs, participates with the Clinical Director in identifying opportunities for revenue generation, resource allocation and efficiency planning decisions for the program

OPERATIONAL

  • Develops mechanisms, in partnership with the Clinical Director to monitor and enhance the quality of patient care and patient/family satisfaction.
  • Attends program meetings relevant to the Medical Director’s role and duties eg..
  • Attend Leadership meetings once a month (or less frequently if not needed)
  • Meet with CD once a month (or less frequently if not needed)
  • Attend weekly Safety Huddles and SSE reviews (as required and appropriate for medical leadership input)
  • Attend Medical Operations Committee (monthly) and Clinical Executive Committee (bi-monthly)
  • Approx 1 hour per week to help problem solve patient, physician or program issues

COMMUNICATION

  • In concert with the Clinical Director develops appropriate communication mechanisms for the service.
  • Formulates mechanisms for conflict resolution and problem solving in consultation with the Clinical Director.
  • Co-ordinate communications, obtain physician feedback on issues/chances that may impact physician practices and workflow
  • Mentors and advises program staff in consultation with the Toronto Rehab Medical Program Director and Senior Clinical Director.

Qualifications

  • MD degree with license to practice in the province of Ontario
  • Appropriate specialty certification and/or experience in Multisystem, Musculoskeletal and/or Geriatric Rehab
  • Appointment or eligibility of appointment to the Faculty of Medicine – University of Toronto
