The Lead Negotiator, Pharmaceutical Partnerships is accountable for executing and delivering on ESC’s Pharmaceutical Partnerships strategy. In this role you will manage relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers with a focus on negotiating product listing agreements (PLAs). The Lead Negotiator Pharmaceutical Partnerships will work closely with our in-house clinical team to identify opportunities and align with clients on the viability of proposed formulary changes. In addition, the manager will oversee the day to day activities in relation to PLAs to ensure the smooth operations and execution of the agreements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cross-functional collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders including our pharmaceutical manufacturer partners and representatives (Market Access)
- Monitor current market and external issues impacting pharmaceutical reimbursement including industry trends, public policy, and the competitive landscape
- Lead the execution of the PLA negotiation process with pharmaceutical manufacturers (negotiation strategy, negotiation phase, contracting) for specific drug therapies to foster the financial sustainability of drug plans
- Understanding and aligning with carrier strategies in order to deliver meaningful PLA’s across provincial regulatory boundaries
- Responsible for coordinating appropriate legal and business review of negotiated document or research and resolution of contract interpretation questions related to rebate agreement, including providing assistance on audit and invoicing questions; must be proficient in drafting/reviewing binding legal agreements
- Responsible for delivering annual PLA forecasts within budget
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years in pharmaceutical market access, pharmacy, health insurance industry or benefits management
- University Degree in Pharmacy, Business, Science, or related field is preferred; clinical background is considered a strong asset
- Bilingual English and French considered a strong asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required:
- Subject matter expertise in market access, benefits/insurance industry, value proposition development, drug reimbursement processes in the public and private payer landscape, public policy
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written, with a demonstrated ability to create and deliver professional, and impactful presentations
- Strong ability to negotiate and influence stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- Strong analytical skills and business acumen with the ability to synthesize complex concepts/information such as clinical evaluation, pharmacoeconomic modelling, budget impact assessment
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Canadian pharmaceutical landscape, Pharmacy Benefit Management, and Provincial Formularies and Regulations
- Established relationships with pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers considered a strong asset
