The Lead Hand will be a direct support to the site supervisors. They will be assigned various tasks on site and will be responsible for seeing them through to completion. Accurate documentation and consistent, proactive communications are critical. Efforts will be made towards continuous improvement and innovation.

Key Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Complete various tasks through the project such as demolition, framing, window installation, insulation, drywall and trim as needed throughout the build process
  • Conduct regular site reviews and progress reports
  • Identify risks and recommend actions to mitigate risks that enhance the project value over the life of the building
  • Ensure site safety is maintained at all times and manage proper safety records
  • Meet and strive to exceed quality standards and service to all clients
  • Ensure that the project is constructed according to plans, specifications, local building codes and contract documents
  • Maintain communication with all stakeholders including clients, sub-contractors and construction personnel for scheduling and decisions
  • Coordinate required material on site
  • Maintain cost controls on site ie: returns of product, timely returns of rentals etc.
  • Project and establish accurate quantity take-offs from drawings where applicable
  • Excellence in problem solving and root cause analysis
  • Monitor performance and quality of work
  • Identify and respond to issues and obstacles that may impede progress
  • Execution of pre-construction activities and job site preparation. Set up temporary site facilities and maintain cleanliness
  • Prepare daily and weekly site reports
  • Determine methods of construction, material and equipment requirements, and temporary power service requirements
  • Support and openly contribute to organizational goals
  • Advise and assist in equipment maintenance, tools and inventory management
  • Protects any and all sensitive and confidential materials regarding the company and operations
  • Commitment to support recruitment of key people to the organization
  • Tracking and documentation of extra labour and materials of the outside quoted scope

Additional considerations/skills:

  • Minimum experience of 3 years in related position
  • Post secondary education in related field or skilled trade is preferred
  • Skilled across all aspects of residential construction and experienced in the use of various power tools and different materials
  • Exceptional knowledge of construction methods and building and renovation requirements
  • Exceptional communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong customer service skills with a “client first” based attitude
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • A desire and goal to be recognized for team contribution and quality
  • Contributing member to enhancing overall team culture
  • Core understanding of the Ontario Building Code
  • Ability to read and interpret construction and various detailed drawings
  • Excellence in problem solving and root cause analysis

  • Willingness to perform duties outside of normal working hours as required
  • Must provide basic hand and power tools, tool allowance will be considered beyond the probation period
  • Must provide transportation to and from jobsite with appropriate vehicle, company vehicle will be considered beyond the probation period
