Astellas Pharma Canada (APCA) is currently searching for a General Manager, Canada reporting to the Head, Established Markets Commercial.
Description:
Overall responsibility for delivering the Affiliate business targets, executing business plans in line with the overall Regional & Corporate strategy and managing operational risk.
Essential Job Duties:
- Create and execute the annual Affiliate business plan. Deliver the Affiliate P&L in line with agreed financial and scorecard objectives, directing allocation of commercial resources to maximize various in-market and new brand growth potential opportunities or risks.
- Continuously review affiliate operating model, implementing changes to ensure it remains fit for purpose in strong collaboration with all functions.
- Co-ordinate knowledge and understanding of the local market(s) to drive sustainable, profitable growth, enhancing operational efficiency, and advancing Astellas’ commercial goals.
- Develop and manage long-term strategic partnerships with key individual, institutional stakeholders and trade associations, acting as an ambassador for the Astellas corporate brand, its reputation, products and product value; secure access to patients in line with global strategy; increase value for patients.
- Consult and collaborate with matrix functional global & regional colleagues/teams to meet operational capability and performance needs across the affiliate.
- Lead the Affiliate management team, ensuring alignment across the organisation and engaging all stakeholders. Develop the capabilities and competencies of the affiliate to deliver a culture of high performance; lead and manage coaching and development activities for commercial leaders to strengthen talent pipelines; building upon Canada’s leadership strong engagement and inclusive culture, keep on fostering sustainable employee engagement and empowerment, support talent acquisition & retention and strong performance management.
- Actively contribute to Established Markets Leadership Team performance.
- Collaborate on the delivery of all in-country compliance requirements, ensuring adherence to company and external codes of conduct, laws and regulations (including Healthcare, Legal, PV, Regulatory, Medical, HR, QA and environmental).
- Legal and fiduciary board responsibilities for total Affiliate (including all employees) as statutory Director of local legal entity (including but not limited to H&S, GDPR, P&L/balance sheet) with corresponding civil and criminal liability (please also reference Group Company Governance Policy 287 and Directors and Officers Insurance Overview).

Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge usually gained through a university degree or at least 10 – 15 years of experience most typically in a commercial role, preferably GM already or a role closely aligned to supporting the commercial organization such as Finance, Medical, Market Access etc.
- Proven ability, track record and experience to effectively lead and motivate teams.
