Compensation Range
$4,688.67 – $6,754.00 CAD Monthly

Job Summary
Under the supervision of the project Principal Investigator (PI), and in consultation with other members of his group, the Software Developer will work on the development of a front end for a Computational Chemistry SaaS solution. This will involve collaborating with members of the Chemistry department. The Front-End Software Developer is a full-time position.
The Computational Chemistry SaaS project will have 2-3 software developers working on the project at any time. To that end, the role of Front-End Software Developer will be both challenging and rewarding. The goal of the project is the production of a novel cloud-based tool for chemists to explore and discover new materials and chemical reactions. The role of the Front-End Software Developer will be instrumental to the success of the project as a whole.
Organizational Status
The Software Developer reports directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Chen Greif. The Software Developer also interacts with diverse employees and collaborators, from various backgrounds and locations; and they assist with the management and development of trainees as necessary.
Work Performed

Working on the development of the front-end of the tool; responsibilities include coding, designing, application management, troubleshooting, monitoring updates and possible security threats; will involve collaborating with other programmers.

Create reports and present development updates to the team and work with staff and users to identify, categorize, parse out and articulate problems that occur in applications.

Preparing basic reports on activities and plans

Supporting the creation of user guides

Frequently reporting to the team on development progress, including demonstrations of the app components developed

Frequently updating and maintaining the github repository

Assisting in any other related development activities, as required

platforms (e.g., Slack) during regular work hours; forwarding to appropriate contacts when necessary

Performing other related duties and tasks as required
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Poor performance will seriously impact the ability of the project to achieve its goal. Continuance of project funding, community alliances, industrial partnerships and ongoing support for the PI could all potentially be affected.
Supervision Received
The Front-End Software Developer will be directly supervised by the PI, and will also receive supervision related to particular tasks from other team members. The work involves both independent work and work within a team environment. The employee will maintain regular contact with the PI weekly meetings, as well as through email, telephone and other communication platforms, as necessary.
Supervision Given
Provides advice and guidance to team members,, and manages trainees as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of one year of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong understanding of client-server architecture, APIs, and website networking

Experience developing and debugging web applications

Experience with Git and GitHub

Previous experience with user-interface design is preferred.
