Job Summary | The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist (Fire & Life Safety) is a technical position that makes independent judgement and initiative decisions that support the development of strategic direction, compliance objectives and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) targets that help lead the institutionalization of standards, procedures, and processes by analysis and interpretation of provincial and federal occupational safety legislation, comprehending complex industry standards, codes and other external safety guidelines. Working closely with key stakeholders internal and external to Dalhousie, this position supports the operational safety requirements while simultaneously promoting a culture of safety for the university. |

Note | The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines. Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary. This position regularly requires travel between the Halifax campuses and external partner institutions as well as periodic travel to the Agricultural Campus in Truro. The position also requires periodic bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting approximately 15 to 20 kg., and working at elevated heights and confined spaces, and holds the possibility of contamination and/or exposure to laboratory and industrial hazards. |
