Job Summary The Medical Education Program within the Department of Family Medicine (DFM) oversees the Family Medicine training for all undergraduate (UG) learners and postgraduate (PG) learners for Dalhousie University. Jointly reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Complex System Navigator and Postgraduate Program Director, the Educational Designer and Implementation Project Manager will be responsible for the educational and curricular redesign that will be required to transition Dalhousie Family Medicine from a two-year to a three-year residency training program. The role is responsible for creating strategies to improve education and practice on topics of emerging importance and address persistent educational challenges.
Key Responsibilities
  • Complete an environmental scan of the Program and each of the distributed teaching sites to identify existing resources and RTP Core Professional Activities (CPAs) that are being met.
  • Participate in and contribute to a series of advocacy meetings incorporating perspectives, ownership, and readiness of relevant partners and sectors (e.g., university, government/funders, CFPC Chapters).
  • Be a key leader and project manager of the development of new clinical and academic curriculum that spans a three-year program and lead the implementation of the three-year residency training curriculum at each of the distributed teaching sites.
  • Create an evaluation strategy designed to measure outcomes subsequent to program changes and report results of analysis on behalf of DFM to CFPC National as per the terms of the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU).
  • Identify and create a budget that reflects the costs of transitioning to program expansion, including the required resources and ongoing operational costs in conjunction with the Medical Education Manager and Financial Manager.
  • Participate in National discussions around the Outcomes of Training Recommendations when the opportunities become available.

Note The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field, plus five years’ related experience in curriculum development, education development theory and practice (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Solid understanding of principles of adult education and learning styles, conceptual skills and systems thinking, program management and administration.
  • Effective and demonstrable leadership and communication skills.
  • Energetic approach to problem solving as well as the ability to multitask, and make decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, research and planning skills are required. Tact, diplomacy, and attention to detail.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Demonstrated experience with stakeholder and clinician engagement.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, with minimal supervision.

Assets
  • Knowledge of CFPC professional standards and regulations.
  • Experience in a university setting and/or health care environment.
  • Experience in leading, developing and implementing change initiative.
