Job Summary Dalhousie University, under the leadership of the Vice-President Research & Innovation, administers over $200M annually in research and innovation funding. As part of the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OIE) and reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Dalhousie and with responsibilitiees to the Executive Director of the Diversity Institute at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), the Director will serve as the main conduit between both organizations and other partner institutions across Canada. The incumbent will manage the relationships with essential high-profile partners, including donors, corporate partners, C-level executives and serve as a lead representative of the Diversity Institute on certain high-level programs. The Director will also help lead the Mindframe Connect project focused on entrepreneurial resilience, mentorship and coaching entrepreneurs, and inclusive innovation.
Key Responsibilities
  • The Director develops short-, medium- and long-term strategic plans and related operational measures and benchmarks for the Diversity Institute and MindFrame Connect, ensuring that resources and systems are in place to achieve planned objectives; establishes and monitors milestones to measure success.
  • Provides strategic advice and expertise to senior leadership to ensure the effective administration and delivery of services and consistent application of university policies and procedures.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of assigned Diversity Institute activities and programs and oversees the Mindframe day-to-day operations, ensuring the office operates in compliance with Dalhousie policies, procedures, and standards and is a model for operational best practices across the University.
  • Develops and oversees the long-term budget models of the projects in support of the budget planning and forecasting process. Prepare and present reports to senior audiences including Donors, Senior University Administration, and Government officials.
  • Full managerial authority over staff located at Dalhousie University and oversight of applicable Toronto Metropolitan University staff.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree, plus seven years’ relevant experience, preferably with experience in an academic or research setting (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Experience with the delivery of programming similar to Mindframe and Diversity Insitute, including programs related to entrepreneurial resilience, mentorship and coaching entrepreneurs, diversity, and inclusive innovation.
  • Candidate must be an exceptional leader, collaborator and operator who is adaptable, tactful, and organized.
  • Experience in an academic environment with in-depth knowledge of both University and industry trends.
  • As this position requires building strong relationships with partners external to Dalhousie, strong interpersonal skills are required.
