Within GIBEX, the Global Commercial Reporting and Data Management team is responsible for the management and governance of key commercial data and the creation of platforms that enable successful brand performance management by senior commercial leaders. 

About the role:

AstraZeneca has a need to maximize the utilization of high quality, trusted data in order to accelerate achievement of our Bold Ambition of getting 20 new medicines to patients by 2030. The Director, Data Product Management drives value realization for data by setting a strategic vision for how data will be collected, organized, stored, and shared. They act as an interface between business customers and technical teams to prioritize building what matters most to enable the strategic goals of the enterprise.  

The role will be responsible for the development and management of commercial Data Products and will report to the Global Commercial Reporting and Data Management lead. Although the role does not have any direct reports, the successful candidate is expected to be leading cross-functional teams from Global Commercial IT and Global Commercial Operations and collaborate very closely with the Reporting Platform leads to deploy successful global commercial data products. Furthermore, the role is expected to be the data domain subject matter expert and the delegated commercial data owner for the specific domain. The data domains considered are (a) Pharmaceutical Secondary Data including retail/hospital sales data and (b) Health Care Professionals’ engagement data. The successful candidate is expected to be experienced in only one of them. 

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Set the vision and strategy for data products in given domains, guided by a clear understanding of business value and customer needs, ultimately translating these needs as input into the design, build and iteration of data products. 
  • Create, maintain and own data product roadmaps, leading the ongoing delivery and management of the product from inception to maturity  
  • Own and manage feature backlogs, teaming with architects, analysts, and engineers to elaborate requirements. This will also include timely reversal of technical debt. 
  • Identify and manage partnerships required to ensure innovative capabilities at the intersection of data science, technology and healthcare. 
  • Lead cross-functional teams from ideation to launch of data products ensuring coordination between data platforms, solution architecture, information architecture and data governance so that the final product meets business, technical and regulatory requirements. 
  • Champion agile, iterative development processes, while also ensuring data products are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable 
  • Manage dependencies in and across releases to complete release phases and milestones. 
  • Communicate effectively with the business leaders whose operations are impacted by data products and the programming surrounding them. 
  • Act as the voice of the business to prioritize building what matters most to enable the strategic goals of the enterprise 
  • Own and manage the business metadata and metrics for specified data products 
  • Engage and collaborate with partners and stakeholders to gather input and communicate plans, timelines, and deliveries 
  • Collaborate with functional Data Office and act as the data owner for the specified data domain: create and improve the relevant data standards; chair the relevant working groups; champion the use of well governed data 
  • Collaborate with compliance to ensure the appropriate considerations are included in the data standards and identified in the QC processes. 
  • Perform relevant Data Stewardship activities if assigned to that role

  • Ability to manage a cross-functional product development and deployment process, including teams of people with diverse skills to perform the needed tasks 
  • Comfortable operating in a heavily matrixed organizations with excellent communication skills and intuition to manage the needs of various stakeholders. 
  • Solid Project and / or Product management skills, including managing vendors, budgets, timelines and risks. 
  • Experience bringing innovation to bear on solving complex and multi-dimensional issues from an operational, technical, financial and human perspective. 
  • Understanding of the principles of Product Management 
  • Familiarity with data engineering concepts such as ETL, data modelling, data lakes / databases, reference data, master data, etc. 
  • Experience leading or working on agile development teams 
  • Excellent leadership, communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills 
  • Experience establishing, communicating, and executing product roadmaps 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to make data-driven decisions 
  • Ability to rapidly grasp concepts and to manage complexity by simplifying it for others and providing clear directions to delivery teams. 
  • Familiarity with the key principles and processes of Data Management (Governance, Architecture, Modelling, Reference and Master Data, Integration, Storage, Business Intelligence) 
  • Ability to understand data-related problems from Business / Product Teams and effortlessly translate these into technical requirements with Data Engineering leads.  
  • Ability to manage and influence strategically and persuade tactfully, to obtain desired outcomes while maintaining effective, positive, organizational relationships. 
  • Strong experience in the data domain. 2 data domains considered, both of them from a global perspective with familiarity needed for major markets (US, China, Japan, EU5, Canada and key International markets e.g. Australia, Korea and Brazil) , expertise required in only one: (1) Pharmaceutical Secondary Data including retail/hospital sales data, dynamic market data, claims based data, EMR data and chart audit driven brand performance data; (2) Health Care Professionals’ engagement data, both digital and physical channel experience, both owned and paid media. 

Desirable skills & experience:

  • Master’s or PhD in a scientific or technical discipline. 
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical industry with strong knowledge of Commercial Processes in the Pharmaceutical market and the diverse sources of information that support, inform and assist in commercialization of pharmaceutical products. 
  • Familiarity with the latest research and thinking and understanding of dynamics affecting the commercial side of the pharmaceutical industry and needs for transformation. 
  • Ability to work globally including international travel. 
  • Familiarity with data science, data visualization, and reporting concepts
