Closing Date: July 10, 2025Position SummaryAs an integral member of the UHN Toronto Centre For Liver Disease interprofessional team, and a specialist in the delivery of nutrition therapy, the REGISTERED DIETITIAN provides services based on standards of quality and evidence-based practice. The Nutritionist completes the following:
1. Provides consultation and independently screens patients for nutritional intervention2. Completes an in-depth nutritional assessment by collecting and interpreting patient health data, performing a nutrition-focused physical exam, and completes ongoing monitoring and reassessment in collaboration with patients, essential care partners and the health care team3. Through patient-centered approaches, establishes priorities, strategies, and interventions in order to contribute to the individualized treatment program that allows the patient to achieve optimal outcomes.4. As an interprofessional team member, the Nutritionist fosters a culture of safety by minimizing patient harm, promoting the well-being of patient and health care providers, reducing the likelihood of adverse events, and communicating safety concerns.5. Provide individualized nutrition assessments, care plans, and follow-ups for patients with liver and metabolic disorders.6. Collaborate closely with physicians, nurse coordinators, and other allied health professionals to create integrated care plans that reflect each patient’s medical and nutritional needs.7. Participate in weekly interdisciplinary rounds to support team-based care planning and knowledge exchange.8. Contribute to and support practice-based research initiatives to advance nutritional care in liver disease.9. Engage in patient and caregiver education around disease-specific dietary management and lifestyle modifications.The nutritionist will also be actively involved in the following specialized clinics:

  • MASLD (Metabolic Associated Steatotic Liver Disease): A clinic focused on managing fatty liver disease driven by metabolic dysfunction. Nutritional interventions aim to reduce liver fat, improve insulin sensitivity, and address cardiovascular risk through structured dietary change.
  • MASH (Metabolic-Associated Steatohepatitis): A clinic targeting patients with steatohepatitis driven by metabolic syndrome. Nutritionists play a central role in managing obesity, insulin resistance, and cardiovascular risk through dietary strategies.
  • ALD (Alcohol-Related Liver Disease): This clinic provides care for patients with liver damage resulting from alcohol use. The nutritionist supports both liver health and recovery from alcohol dependence through tailored nutrition plans and supplementation as needed.
  • Met ALD (Metabolic Alcohol-Related Liver Disease): A combined clinic for patients who have both alcohol-related and metabolic-related liver disease. Nutritional care is highly individualized, addressing overlapping risk factors such as alcohol intake, metabolic dysfunction, and nutritional deficiencies.

QualificationsEDUCATION:

  • At minimum, completion of a bachelors degree in an integrated practicumprogramin Nutrion. Consideration will be given to individuals with Bachelors Degree in Nutrition or recognized equivalent required.
  • At minimum over 1 year up to and including 2 years practical and related experience and/or 1year on-the-job training required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in a hospital environment, preferred.
  • Experience in related specialties, an asset.
  • Experience as a preceptor, an asset

  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Complies with the Code of Ethics and Rules of Conduct according to College of Dietitians of Ontario, required.

  • Ability to learn and perform applicable advanced nutrition assessment including Subjective Global Assessment, Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis, skinfold measurements and indirect calorimetry, required.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Office applications and medical software, required.
  • Ability to negotiate and advocate for patients and the Dietetic profession, required.
  • Demonstrated teaching ability, and leadership skills to facilitate meetings, volunteers and students, required.
  • Ability to adapt to a wide variety of patient populations and knowledge of cultural foods and diversity, required.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, required.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, required.
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, decision-making and conflict resolution skills, required.
  • Ability to extract very detailed information to make informed decisions, required.
  • Broad-based knowledge and versatility in clinical dietetics, required.
  • Ability to conduct practice-based research, required
