Boeing Vancouver is seeking a Data Engineering Intern(s) for our winter internship program. The Data Engineering intern, will be reporting to the Data Mesh Platform Manager. This is a full-time internship opportunity that is based at our office in Richmond, British Columbia and is up to 8 months in length, starting in early January, 2025.
The intern will be part of the Data Mesh Platform team, which is responsible for designing and building a data sharing platform using a distributed, decentralized ownership approach based on the data mesh architectural pattern. This team establishes best practices and provides guidance for domain teams to securely and with governance share their data in line with corporate strategy and standards. The Data Engineering Intern will assist in designing, implementing, and managing data pipelines that meet business requirements. This includes defining data models, data contracts, data quality requirements, and model features.
Candidates should have a solid understanding of fundamental software development standards and practices, cloud infrastructure, and security practices. However, to excel in this role, they must also demonstrate professional curiosity, a love for learning, a passion for problem-solving, and a resourceful, get-it-done attitude.

Position Responsibilities
-
Work directly with an assigned mentor or a buddy.
-
Design and implement robust, highly performant, and scalable streaming data pipelines using Python and Spark.
-
Define, enforce, and measure data quality as part of the data pipelines.
-
Work with cross-functional teams to solve their complex data problems.
-
Foster the creation of a data-driven culture, data stewardship, related competencies, and data literacy across the organization.
Ad-Hoc & Other:
-
Generate ad-hoc data analysis utilizing Plotly, Power BI, R, Python, Excel, and/or other tools.

Report status and progress to Reporting Manager and Scrum Master
-
Stay up to date on all new Spark/Databricks features and functionalities and find ways to introduce them to the organization.
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at Richmond location. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

Currently enrolled as a full-time student with an accredited university or college with studies in Computer Science or similar technical discipline.

Must be at least a 2nd year or higher student with studies in a relevant program.

Experience with data engineering and data processing tools.

Experience with Python.
-
Experience with relational and non-relational database technologies.

Willing and able to work 40 hours per week during the internship.

Must be legally able to work in Canada.
-
Individual must not pose a risk for safeguarding of controlled goods.

Must be eligible to handle US export-controlled data.
Preferred Qualifications (Education/Experience):
-
Experience with Apache Spark and/or Databricks.
-
Experience with cloud (Azure preferred).
-
Experience in collaborative development environments and version control (e.g., GitLab).

Experience in production-quality software development.
-
Experience working within Agile/Lean frameworks.

Previous internship experience
*Graduates are ineligible unless continuing in post graduate studies.
Relocation:
Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
Additional Information:
This requisition is for a locally hired position in Canada. The employer is Boeing Canada. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada. Benefits and pay are determined by Canada and are not on Boeing US-based payroll. This is not an expatriate assignment.
Starting salary will be based on year of post-secondary education completed, qualifications and experience. The range for this internship is $22.00 – $24.50 CAD hourly.
