Job Description Summary

BASIC FUNCTION:
Reporting directly to the Director, be responsible for coordinating and implementing programs and services tailored to meet the needs of military-affiliated students.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with the Director to develop and execute strategies for the recruitment, retention, and support of military-affiliated students, integrating academic advising best practices.
Coordinate academic advising and support to military and veteran students regarding educational benefits, academic planning, course selection, and degree requirements, with a focus on maximizing education resources and success.
Supervise work-study students employed by the MAVE Center as a part of a VA program, offering mentorship and support in alignment with their academic and career goals.
Organize and conduct outreach activities to enhance the visibility of the Center’s services, emphasizing academic success resources within the university community and among military installations.
Assist the Director in administrative responsibilities, including budget and finance functions, ensuring resources are allocated effectively for student support and program initiatives.
Contribute to the development of policies and procedures that address the unique academic and personal needs of military-affiliated students, ensuring a smooth transition into academic life.
Coordinate with various university departments (such as academic advising, financial aid, and student support services) to ensure seamless integration of military-affiliated into the broader university community.
Maintain accurate records and data related to military and veteran students, including advising interactions, academic progress, and retention efforts, for reporting and analysis purposes.
Assist in planning and executing special events and activities geared towards military-affiliated individuals, with a focus on academic success, career development, and community engagement.
Generate branding and marketing materials (digital/print) for Center events, with specific emphasis on communicating academic resources, student success stories, and support services through the Center’s website, social media, and print publication.
Work with the University printing office and outside vendors to order promotional materials for the Center, ensuring they reflect the academic advising and support services available.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform other duties as required, including providing academic guidance and working with other university departments to support military-affiliated students’ success.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers; spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software; Social media management platforms.
Required QualificationsREQUIRED:
1. Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, higher education administration, or a related field.
2. Minimum three years of experience working in higher education.
3. Demonstrated understanding of military educational benefits (e.g., GI Bill®).
4. Demonstrated familiarity with academic advising in higher education.
5. Demonstrated organizational skills.
6. Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in an academic setting (including balancing student needs with program objectives).
7. Demonstrated ability to work independently (including providing guidance to students) as well as part of a team.
8. Demonstrated empathy and understanding of the unique academic challenges faced by military-affiliated students (including a focus on student retention and success).
9. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
10. Demonstrated proficiency with written communication skills.
11. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
Preferred QualificationsPREFERRED:
1. Demonstrated experience advising student organizations or similar student groups.
2. Demonstrated experience managing websites, social media, and listservs for communication with student populations.
3. Demonstrated experience working with military populations, or in a similar role, within higher education.
