The Automation Technician is responsible for ensuring the efficient and high-quality operation of various automation equipment. They play a key role in minimizing downtime and maintaining routine production activities. Additionally, the Automation Technician contributes to the continuous improvement of automation processes and analyzes the current state for optimization.

Perform preventive maintenance on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines to ensure their smooth operation.

Operate equipment in compliance with SOPs, GMP, and safety procedures, while maintaining detailed documentation.

Conduct changeovers on automation equipment according to product specifications.
-
Troubleshoot and repair process automation problems, including root cause analysis, to minimize production downtime.

Proactively address bottlenecks, slowdowns, and peak demands in the production process.

Interpret and improve Overall Equipment Efficiency systems to enhance processes.
-
Monitor and adjust processes based on upstream and downstream production needs.

Fabricate repair parts and maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventory.

Coordinate contracted maintenance work for major repairs and collaborate with vendors on system maintenance.

Backup PLC and robotic programs when necessary.

Develop training plans and documents for automation and machine operators to improve efficiency.
-
Lead meetings with supervisors, coworkers, and employees to plan activities and update operational projects.

Maintain a clean and organized work area in line with 5S principles.

Collaborate with technicians to ensure smooth production flow, including parts availability and setup.

Document procedures, logic sequences, data integration, and communication between automated lines.

Perform routine building maintenance, such as structural repairs.
-
Prepare mechanical maintenance reports by analyzing information and trends.
-
Understand electrical/electronic schematic diagrams, blueprints, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.

Stay updated by attending educational workshops and reviewing technical publications.
-
Adhere to safety regulations and maintain a clean work environment.
-
Ensure all equipment meets CSA, OSHA, and Electrical Safety Code requirements.

Electronics Technician/Technologist Certificate or equivalent.
-
Basic knowledge of computer networking and Ethernet connections.
-
Certificate of Qualification or equivalent work experience.
-
Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience.
-
Licensed Electrician 442A or 309A (preferred).
-
Experience with PLCs/HMI/motor controllers/Vision Camera programming and troubleshooting.

Experience in industrial manufacturing is an asset.
-
Advanced technical or college training is preferred.

Availability for shifts, overtime, and emergency calls.
-
Experience with ABB, Schubert, or similar Robots is a plus.
