The Department of Psychiatry, in conjunction with BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute and Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track). The ideal candidate will be a clinician scientist with an interest in translational psychiatry with a focus on high-complexity psychiatric youth with depression. The position will be based in BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute and the successful candidate will be able to hold a concurrent appointment as an Investigator within the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute.

The Department’s medical education programs are some of the most widely distributed within the Faculty of Medicine consisting of faculty appointees and trainees located within each of British Columbia’s Health Authorities.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead a clinical/research program with a focus on youth with major depression and high clinical complexity to advance understanding of the neurobiological underpinnings of depression and to identify, characterize, and validate different biomarkers that may inform personalized care for  young people with depression. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the teaching activities of the Department of Psychiatry including teaching in the Master’s Program in Translational Psychiatry, giving lectures in the Graduate and Undergraduate Programs in Neuroscience, and providing resident and fellow teaching in adult and child psychiatry didactics. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to mentor clinical fellows in research projects, to provide training in advanced translational fMRI methods via workshops and teaching at BCCHR and DMCBH for faculty and students which link adult and pediatric neuroscience research in psychiatry, and to support and teach open-science strategies for translational neuroscience research that includes both children and adults.

The successful candidate will hold an MD with certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (i.e. FRCPC) or equivalent qualifications in Psychiatry. The candidate will be expected to have clinical and research background/expertise in youth depression and neuroimaging; experience in discovery of biomarkers would be an asset. At the rank of Assistant Professor, the successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching, evidence of ability in scholarly activity, and will be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
