About Us:Franz Kaka was founded in 2016 as an artist-led gallery, presenting exhibitions that privilege experimentation and risk-taking. In 2019, the gallery began formally representing a number of the artists who had previously exhibited, including Lotus L. Kang, HaeAhn Paul Kwon Kajander, Anne Low, and Elif Saydam. In the years since, the gallery has expanded its international reach through gallery collaborations and art fair participations, including presentations at Art Basel, Frieze London, and the Armory Show. Known for presenting materially curious and conceptually complex exhibitions, the gallery champions nuanced practices that transform and deepen through sustained engagement, fostering dynamic conversations with audiences in Toronto and abroad.Position Overview:We are seeking a forward-thinking Part-Time Assistant Director to join our leadership team. This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape the gallery’s exhibition program, strengthen our national presence, and expand our international reach—creating meaningful connections at home and abroad. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director to oversee all aspects of gallery operations, with a focus on developing artist’s careers through local engagement and global dialogue.Key Responsibilities:– Strategic Leadership: Assist in crafting long-term strategic plans that bolster the gallery’s position within a Canadian and international context.– Departmental Oversight: Support management of curatorial, sales, marketing, and operational departments, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.– Curatorial & Exhibition Development: Contribute to shaping exhibitions and programming that resonate locally and internationally, showcasing Canadian talent alongside global artists.– External Engagement & Partnerships: Represent the gallery at major national and international art fairs, exhibitions, and biennials. Cultivate relationships with artists, collectors, institutions, and partners across Canada and worldwide to enhance collaborations and visibility.– Marketing & Communications: Develop campaigns, press releases, and media outreach strategies that elevate the gallery’s profile within Canada and internationally.– Financial & Operational Management: Assist in budget planning, logistics for exhibitions and travel, and operational workflows, ensuring efficiency and compliance.– Sales & Client Development: Pursue personal sales targets, foster relationships with Canadian and international collectors and institutions, and contribute to the long term sustainability of the gallery.– Travel & Work Commitments: Be prepared for travel to major art fairs, exhibitions, and stakeholder meetings across Canada and internationally. Maintain effective communication, represent the gallery professionally, and manage expenses diligently.This is a part-time position with some scheduling flexibility, ideal for a professional committed to seeing Canadian artists thrive within the global art ecosystem.
