LSLB has a unique vision and drive; the Band has not only led the way in tourism within the Shuswap, but it has also led the way in economic development. The creation of Quaaout Lodge, Talking Rock Golf, Le7ka Spa, and Little Shuswap Gas Station has helped promote Secwepemc culture, and allowed the Little Shuswap Lake people to develop world class accommodation and leisure activities. The governance structure of LSLB is unique and forward-looking, divided into 4 distinct sectors: Administration, which covers programs and services for Band members; Wellness, which is responsible for the overall health and wellness of the community; Territorial Stewardship, which addresses title and rights issues and external government-government relations; and Economic Development, which oversees the business operations of the community and works to promote a strong, resilient economy for the community. The Opportunity – A Day in the Life of an Addictions Support Worker:
Reporting to and under the direction of the Health Manager, the Addictions Support Worker is responsible for the development, administration, and delivery of the Addictions program by providing individual, group and family counselling, community education, client advocacy, assessment, referrals, treatment and aftercare of clients. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

Requirements – What you bring to the organization:

· Completion of a minimum 2 years of experience of addictions training from a recognized Canadian Certification Institution.

· Mental Health training an asset

· Minimum of 2 years of work experience in Addictions Counselling.

· Experience in working in an Indigenous community and/or with Indigenous clients.

· Familiarity with best practices in alcohol and drug addiction service delivery, including prevention, intervention, and relapse prevention.

· Familiarity with the Harm Reduction approach to addictions.

· Experience with Interior Health and First Nations Health Authority.

· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

· Ability to organize workload and meet established deadlines with minimum


· Ability to maintain and enforce confidentiality.

· Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

· Ability to provide and maintain a clear criminal record check.

· Occupational requirements:

o Current First Aid certificate

o Tuberculosis Test

o Cultural Competency Training

o Personal Wellness Plan

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

· Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the LSLB and Skwlax Wellness Centre policies, standards and procedures, and as directed by the Health Director.

· In consultation with the Health Director, develop an Addictions Program including the prevention, treatment and after care for addictions.

· Provide individual, group and family counselling services for clients with addictions.

· Establish and maintain a library of resource materials, relating to addictions.

· Promote and participate in cultural, recreational and social programs that support mental wellness, health and healing of clients and the community.

· Provide community awareness and education programs on Addictions and Substance Abuse, and related health topics focusing on a Harm Reduction approach.

· Provide information and referral to community members on addictions and resources within the community and region.

· Work collaboratively with other Wellness and Band Staff to coordinate services and intervention for individuals and families
