Facilities Engineer (Biotech)
Apex Systems is a large staffing and consulting firm and we are looking for a Facilities Engineer with 2-4+ years experience working in the Biotech/Pharma industry, working in a GMP environment and cleanrooms, knowledge of HVAC and building controls, experience working in a QMS, supporting communication to external vendors for equipment maintenance and fixes outside of skills to place at our Biopharma client.

Contract/Perm & duration: 6-month contract, likelihood of extension
- 5 days/week onsite*
Location: Downtown Toronto
We are seeking a passionate, driven, and experienced professional with a desire to continuously improve our client’s processes and standards. The Facility Engineer will be based at their Toronto site. We are seeking a highly motivate individual to maintain and oversee our buildings and equipment to ensure that the workplace is safe and functional.
The primary goal of the Facility Engineer is to maintain our client’s facilities by coordinating equipment repairs and preventative maintenance. Additionally, this position will own utility and facility equipment, work closely with EH&S on safety initiates, and collaborate with the manufacturing, supply chain, and quality partners.
Responsibilities:
- Performing routine maintenance on facilities and making repairs as needed
- Scheduling routine inspections and emergency repairs with outside vendors
- Maintain day-to-day operations by completing maintenance orders
- Monitor Building Management System and emergency response as needed
- Respond, evaluate, and document critical equipment alarms using a CMMS
- Provide subject matter expertise for MEP systems (HVAC, compressed gas, boilers, chillers, etc.)
- Conduct daily inspections and ensure the facilities utilities and space are in optimum condition
- Provide on-call support as needed
- Help execute annual facility maintenance shutdowns
Key Qualifications:
- BSc in Engineering or related life science degree with 2+ years of experience, or 4+ years relevant experience in Biotech/Pharma facilities.
- Experience in working with mechanical HVAC and building controls
- Experience working with CMMS and QMS systems
- Hands on experience with maintenance equipment
- Having experience in BSL2, cleanrooms, and GMP spaces
- Familiarity with cGMPs and application to the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, or biologics is preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with keen attention to detail and highly organized
- Demonstrated flexibility in adjusting to changing priorities and schedules
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a team-oriented focus
- Experience in working in electronic systems such as MS Suite, Smartsheet, OneNote, and document management
