The pediatric rehabilitation RPN skill set is grounded in rehabilitative principles of managing complex medical needs, collaborating with the interprofessional team, partnering with the client and family, providing client/caregiver education, working with the client/family to set goals for maximum independence and establish plans of care in collaboration with the interprofessional team to maintain optimal wellness. The RPN is registered with College of Nurses of Ontario and works to full scope of practice within the current legislative framework.This position is part of the team. The successful RPN may additionally provide occasional support on the Brain Injury Rehabilitation (BIRT) and Complex Continuing Care (CCC) inpatient units.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESClinical Practice

  • Uses theoretical and evidence-based practice to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for clients on all 3 inpatient units
  • Provides strength-based nursing care that promotes and supports the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual well-being of clients and families
  • Practices culturally competent care
  • Works in partnership with client/family and interprofessional team to facilitate appropriate, timely and effective discharge/transition planning
  • Advocates for clients/families with goal of effective outcomes and appropriate use of resources
  • Interacts with members of the interdisciplinary care team and community providers as appropriate, to ensure an integrated approach to care
  • Supports and respects the client/family’s rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs and experiences

Collaboration

  • Collaborates with client / family and interprofessional team to identify client-centred goals
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills
  • Practices based on identified standards of care within an interprofessional environment Leadership
  • Uses strength-based leadership to develop themselves and engage others, build partnerships and networks to achieve results, and use systems/critical thinking to champion and orchestrate change.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective health care
  • Participates in quality activities to ensure the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment
  • Utilizes the teaching/learning process to provide education, both formal and informal to clients/families, colleagues, students and other professionals within a fully affiliated academic healthcare environment
  • Manages change in a constructive and appropriate manner

Research/Education

  • Demonstrates a spirit of inquiry by examining current practice and identifying questions for study
  • Utilizes nursing best practice guidelines to deliver care
  • Participates in nursing research where applicable and utilizes outcome measurement

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of a Practical Nursing Diploma program
  • Registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BCLS certificate-Basic Rescuer
  • Previous experience working with children
  • Experience in behaviour management preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse workload while setting priorities and meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated computer skills, Meditech experience preferred
