Hours: Up to 30 hours / week, hours are dependent upon programming (e.g. during slower periods no shifts will be scheduled).
Shifts: Varying shifts (minimum 4 hours); early start time (e.g. 06:00) during labs; ability to work evenings and weekends

The Temerty Advanced Surgical Education & Simulation Centre (Temerty Sim Centre) is a new state-of-the-art surgical simulation facility located within the Michener Institute of Education at UHN. It is 15,000 sq ft of wet and dry simulation space. The Centre supports surgical specialties across UHN and beyond, including, but not limited to, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, thoracics, endoscopy, general surgery, transplant, minimally invasive surgery and robotic assisted surgery.This position will be part of a pool of technicians who will be scheduled based on program and/or Centre needs. Peak months are April – November.Duties

  • Responsibilities include working with Manager to review upcoming programs, mapping out lab specific requirements, and inventory;
  • Completing set up and tear down of surgical simulation spaces (both wet and dry);
  • Cleaning of spaces, equipment and instrumentation;
  • Assisting in receiving/ship out of specimens (cadaveric + tissues), supporting in preparation of specimens;
  • Assisting in receiving/ship out of equipment and/or program specific items;
  • During labs, acting as point person to assist participants and faculty with immediate needs;
  • Other duties as required that support the Centre pre/during/post programs

Qualifications

  • College diploma program and/or must be enrolled in a Bachelors or Postgraduate Program
  • 5+ year experience in a clinical field (familiarity with instrumentation / procedures is an asset)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Level of comfort around cadavers and/or cadaveric resections
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time
