Target End Date: 08/29/2025Children & Youth Course InstructorTemporary Part-time(Up to 24 hours per week; Summer Camp shifts run Monday to Friday 9:30am-3:30pm, with extended hours until 4pm on some Fridays.)ART + AUDIENCE + LEARNINGLocated in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the largest art museums in North America, attracting approximately one million visitors annually. The AGO Collection of more than 120,000 works of art ranges from cutting-edge contemporary art to significant works by Indigenous and Canadian artists and European masterpieces.We are currently seeking Temporary Part-time Children & Youth Course Instructors to join our Education & Programming team. This role will provide support for our seasonal AGO Art Camp programming.Under the direction of the Manager, Learning and Studio Programming, the Children & Youth Course Instructor will conduct art courses; demonstrate and discuss the techniques and materials particular to the course medium (painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, graphic arts, mixed media and/or other studio techniques, art theory) and target audiences year-round.The rate of pay for this position is $37.69 – $47.08 per hour.What is this position responsible for?
- Instructs students on the theoretical, technical and creative practices of various visual arts media through discourse, demonstrations and reference to the AGO’s permanent collection, exhibitions and instructor’s own studio and/or academic work.
- Develops and submits for approval a comprehensive course outline for courses.
- Determines materials, equipment, model, audio-visual, technical and other support needs for each course and submits requests to Manager and Chief Technician for approval.
What are we looking for?
- Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated experience working in the appropriate medium for the course(s) (drawing, sculpture, painting, printmaking, graphic art, mixed media, art history/theory) as well as the relevant conceptual background, techniques, materials and practices for instructing in those media/subjects.
- Comprehensive knowledge and directly related experience with teaching methodologies, techniques and practices, relevant to children and youth as required by the course. Demonstrated experience teaching at the age level of programming for students.
- Public exhibition and/or publication of their work in the previous two-years as well as post-secondary studies in education and studio art; knowledge of art history.
- Well-developed interpersonal, public relations, and verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well as part of an instructional team
- Working knowledge of the AGO collection.
- Demonstrated computer competency (word, excel, email, etc.)
