The TN provides state-of-the-art facilities to offer a comprehensive range of both structured and leisure activities and services to enhance recovery and wellness goals for clients. Multiple activities and programs occur simultaneously within the Therapeutic Neighbourhood and are facilitated and/or supported by the core Therapeutic Neighbourhood inter-professional staff and/or internal and/or community partners. You will be required to work weekend, weekday, and/or evening shifts.This is an exciting and unique professional opportunity. In this role, you will contribute to the development and refinement of programming and clinical processes in the TN. As a member of the TN inter-professional team you will:

  • Work with clients from diverse backgrounds experiencing a variety of mental health and addiction issues
  • Contribute to the safety, organization and optimal function of the TN and promote maintenance of the therapeutic milieu, under the direction of the clinical staff in accordance with organizational processes/procedures
  • Contribute to and participate in the assessment and supervision of clients in the TN
  • Accompany clients between inpatient units and TN to attend programming, while focusing on safety and excellent customer service
  • Communicate with inpatient teams to coordinate pick up and drop off of clients as well as the status of client enrollment in TN programming
  • Participate in the transfer of care of those clients attending TN programming
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing behavioural observations, assessments and client’s responses to programming
  • Assume an active role in maintaining both dynamic and static security elements of the TN
  • Assist with the preparation, set up and disassembly for groups
  • Assist with programming and client support during programming
  • Participate in team meetings and quality improvement initiatives at the TN
  • Other duties as required

The successful candidate will have lived experience as a recipient of mental health and/or addictions services. Reporting to the Manager of Therapeutic Neighbourhood, the successful candidate will have a Secondary School diploma or equivalent and preference will be given to candidates that have 1 year of experience in a health care related field. The successful candidate will possess a Personal Care Worker Certificate or be in the process of pursuing a certificate/diploma/degree in a health care discipline. CPR certification is considered an asset. The successful candidate has experience working with clients, teams and stakeholders from diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds and Support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. Familiarity with clinical care and issues specific to mental health and or addictions settings is preferred. Knowledge and understanding of the complexities of the forensic mental health system (e.g., the Ontario Review Board) is considered an asset. The successful candidate is reliable, co-operative and client-focused as well as a motivated team player who shows initiative, has demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in an inter-professional team environment and has demonstrated high levels of sensitivity and diplomacy; and possesses effective organizational, problem-solving and communication skills.CAMH is a fully affiliated teaching hospital and research institute of the University of Toronto.
