We offer an inspiring, inclusive, innovative, and collaborative work environment with competitive compensation and benefit packages and programs that support ongoing learning and professional growth.The PositionThis is an exciting opportunity for an innovative, creative and experienced Communication Disorder Assistant (CDA) to join the Extensive Needs Service, an outpatient program for individuals up to the age of 18, whose needs cannot be met in a single service stream and who require an integrated approach across Mental, Behavioural and Developmental Health. The successful applicant will work closely with the Speech and Language Pathologist to deliver compassionate and goal-oriented care, as well as collaborate with other members of the Extensive Needs Service team. They will also work directly with the clients/families to deliver on client-specific goals, track progress over time, provide necessary updates and document progress.This is a temporary part-time (0.5 FTE) position until May 2026.Key Responsibilities

  • Carries out the Speech-Language Pathology designated programs to individual clients or groups of clients who are being seen for direct therapy
  • Documents client progress according to the Hospital’s documentation policy
  • Provides consultation and mediator training to caregivers, interprofessional team members, and community partners under direct supervision by the Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Maintains communication with supervising Speech-Language Pathologist. Monitors and reports any change or adverse reaction to treatment or prescribed program plan
  • Provides client and family-centred care based on direction provided by the Speech-Language Pathologist and in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Respects the client/family’s rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs and experiences
  • Participates in on-the-job training and continuing education/professional development where appropriate
  • Collects relevant data as directed by the Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Maintains clean, safe equipment and materials and assists in reviewing inventory
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings
  • Participates in quality management activities
  • Communicates in a timely and effective manner with team members and clients
  • Identifies practice issues and participates in their resolution with the clinical staff
  • Adheres to Holland Bloorview Documentation Policy, including documenting accurate workload statistics.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices
  • Others duties as required

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Communicative Disorders Assistant program
  • Previous job-related experience
  • Experience working with children with physical and developmental disabilities, including ASD, is preferred
  • Experience implementing augmentative and alternative communication systems is preferred
  • Experience using software such as Boardmaker to create visual aids and treatment materials is an asset
  • Experience working in a an interdisciplinary setting is preferred
  • Well-developed organizational, problem-solving, verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Self directed learner who demonstrates initiative
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently manage fluctuating clinical responsibilities
  • Knowledge of speech, language and communication strategies for intervention and training
  • Ability to modify delivery of program activities based on client’s interest and abilities
