We encourage and actively seek applications from Indigenous, Black, racialized people, visible minorities, 2SLGBTQIA+ persons, all genders, and persons with disabilities.GBC VisionTo be a college renowned for its inclusion, excellence, relevance, impact, and leadership.Position Description:Reporting to the Community Engagement Manager in the Community Partnerships Office, the SCWI Reach Ahead Support Officer will support the SCWI Program Coordinator and Coordinator of Educational Projects in delivering the Dual Credit Program, School Within A College (SWAC) program, Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), and Activities and Events offered through the Community Partnerships Office.Key Responsibilities:
- Liaising with faculty and staff to monitor student progress and address barriers to success (i.e. behavior and attendance).
- High level of attention to detail required to ensure database is accurate and current by collecting, tracking, and inputting student demographic and registration data from schools boards and ensures creation of student records in Banner SIS.
- Assisting in the completion of appropriate reporting requirements as per funder guidelines.
- Maintaining effective relationships with internal/external current and potential partners (academic divisions, community and GTA school partners).
- Assisting in the preparation and delivery of SCWI activities and events, i.e., student recruitment, preparing presentations and workshops, scheduling rooms, purchasing resources (books, materials, food etc.).
- Collecting student attendance records and grades and disseminating to school boards.
- Providing student support through referrals to CPO Transition and Retention Advising Specialist, or external partners (school boards and community organizations).
- Assisting in the development and delivery of Student Success Plans.
- Administering student evaluation surveys; Researching and analyzing past and current data to develop strategic plans based on evaluation tools.
- Preparing and facilitating orientations for new SCWI students along with securing access to necessary services (e.g. safety equipment, student identification cards, lockers).
- Preparing communication materials, marketing materials, conference presentations and information flow within the Community Partnerships Office.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
- Three-year College diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Social Sciences, Community Services, Human Resources, or equivalent.
- Minimum two (2) years experience working in a high school and/or community setting supporting marginalized populations (first generation, youth at-risk indigenous, newcomers, young parents etc.).
- Demonstrated experience in group facilitation and workshop delivery; project management skills.
Skills and Attributes:
- Excellent knowledge of post-secondary systems including College, University, Apprenticeship.
- Working knowledge of processes related to First Generation and School to College to Work Initiatives.
- Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and database experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take initiative.
- Solid problem solving and analytical skills; ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management, attention to detail, organizational skills, project management, report writing and data collection skills.
- Ability to travel between campuses and community.
- Ability to work in an environment where diversity of people and situations are encountered.
- Some overtime evening and weekend work will be required for focus group sessions and special events.
