They aim to eliminate prejudice and discrimination and shape a world where mental illness is central to our healthcare system – a world where Mental Health is Health.To learn more about CAMH, please visit their website at:To view our Land Acknowledgment, please clickThe NRU at CAMH is an internal float pool comprised of Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, and Program Assistants, who deliver exceptional client care across all inpatient units at CAMH, in the event of strategically planned and unplanned staff absences.The NRU is seeking three (3) part-time, permanent Program Assistants, who will be assigned by the NRU to work across all inpatient settings at CAMH.Reporting to the NRU Manager, you will:
- Contribute to the organization and safe and optimal function of the unit under the direction of the clinical staff
- Promote maintenance of the therapeutic milieu as a member of the interprofessional team
- Participate in the supportive interaction and monitoring of individual and groups of clients and provide them with direct care and support
- Accompany clients on- and off-site for transfers, appointments, and programming
- Facilitate client participation in group and individual activities
- Communicate both verbally and in writing about behavioural observations, assessments, and client’s response to care interventions
- Support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.
The successful applicant will work a rotating schedule that includes 12-hour days (0730-1930), 12-hour nights (1930-0730), and weekends, at the Queen Street site.
- Secondary School diploma (or equivalent)
- Personal Care Worker Certificate or in the process of pursuing a certificate/diploma/degree in a health-related discipline
- Able to work with people from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in an interprofessional team
- Able to reflect on one’s own biases and demonstrate empathy for clients
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, computer, and communication skills
- Assets include: Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language, CPR certification, First Aid training, and familiarity with clinical care and issues specific to mental health and/or addiction settings
