Physician (Pain and Medication Management) – Part-Time 1.5-2 days per week
CBI Health Group has a unique opportunity to step into a busy practice and work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians.
The Physician, working with third party funded (sponsored) clients effectively builds rapport to facilitate the client in maximizing function through attending to their medical needs. The Physician within the team is accountable for the provision of medical assessment and treatment services to consistently meet/exceed client goals and expectations,
ultimately returning to work and/or activities of daily living. The Physician also provides an educational role in assisting clients to better understand the various effective medical strategies for managing pain and disability. The Physician works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary treatment team and with external stakeholders, facilitating effective
communication and optimal client outcome.

Potential/preferred candidates are (one of):
- Licensed MD in Canada MD and registered or available to register with BC College of Physicians and Surgeons.
- GP with Sports Medicine qualification
- Physical Medicine & Rehab Physician
Program:
The Pain and Medication Management Program is an outpatient interdisciplinary pain program specifically designed for injured workers with who require assessment and management of complex pain issues. The scope of the program includes injured workers prescribed opioids and/or sedative-hypnotics who would benefit from medication management and/or taper/elimination, and Workers with a diagnosis of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome for which sympathetic ganglion blocks may be indicated.
The interdisciplinary team of Physicians, Pharmacists, Psychologists, Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists work together with the injured worker to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the biopsychosocial factors that contribute to their current pain and responses to that pain. The principles of treatment are self-management and reduced reliance on passive methods of pain management such as medication and massage therapy.
The treatment team and the injured worker will develop an individualized, goal-oriented treatment program which addresses medical, physical, functional, psychosocial and vocational issues. It is the team’s responsibility, with input from the WorkSafeBC officer, to determine the treatment components required to overcome the identified recovery and return to work factors to assist the Worker in:
- achieving return to work and/or increased function, and
- a safe, sustainable taper of opioid and sedative-hypnotic medication use.
